A power dialer for small business owners who make their own calls

Rapidialer is a power dialer for small business owners and two-person sales teams who make their own calls and need a dialer that is cheap, quick to set up and out of the way. There is no seat minimum and a seat is $5 a month: you connect a Twilio account, import a spreadsheet of contacts, and start power dialing from the browser the same afternoon, with no contract to sign.

Updated

Key takeaways

  • One seat is $5 a month or $49 a year, with no seat minimum and a 14-day free trial that needs no card.
  • An owner who bills 300 Twilio minutes a month, with recording and one local number, pays about $7.30 to Twilio.
  • Save & provision on Settings → Telephony fails with “No Twilio phone numbers were found in this account” until you buy a number.
  • Federal rules give you no more than 10 business days to honor a do-not-call request, which you then keep for five years (47 CFR 64.1200(d)).

What slows small businesses down

  • Most dialers are priced for call centers, with seat minimums, annual contracts or $100-plus seats that do not fit a business making a few hundred calls a week.
  • Calling from a personal mobile mixes business and personal numbers, and the call history is gone when someone leaves.
  • A spreadsheet of leads, a notes app and a calendar do not tell you who to call back today.
  • Hiring a first sales rep means setting up their phone, numbers and pipeline from scratch.

A calling day for small businesses in Rapidialer

  1. Set up Twilio once

Create or upgrade a Twilio account, buy a local number, and connect it to Rapidialer with your Account SID and Auth Token.

  2. Import your spreadsheet

Save your contacts as CSV and import them; Rapidialer matches the phone, name, email and company columns for you.

  3. Call in focused blocks

Block an hour and open the list in the Dialer. Power Dial is on by default: log each outcome and the next contact rings after a five-second countdown.

  4. Add a rep when you are ready

Add a seat, invite your first rep as an agent, give them their own Twilio number, and share your lists and scripts.

How much does a power dialer cost a small business?

A solo owner pays about $12.30 a month: the $5 seat after the free trial, plus about $7.30 of Twilio usage for 300 billed minutes with recording on and one local number, at Twilio’s published rates. There is no minimum or annual commitment, and pricing shows bigger examples.

Growth is linear. Counting 1,000 minutes per person, three people cost about $79.95 a month and ten about $266.50. On yearly billing the seats drop to $147 a year for three and $490 for ten; the Twilio side does not change.

Can you cold call with Google Voice or Quo instead?

You can make a few calls with them, but neither is built for working a list. Google says it limits how many Voice calls and messages a user can make per day, without publishing the number (Google Workspace Admin Help). Quo, formerly OpenPhone, restricts calls placed without proper consent and calling large numbers of unique or sequential numbers in a way that does not fit normal business use, and it can limit or end service (Quo fair use policy).

Both are fine as the business line customers call. For outbound prospecting, a small business cold calling software setup keeps the dialing in a separate tool: the dialer on your own Twilio numbers, and your existing line for everything else. The daily limits are the main reason Google Voice for cold calling stalls once a list grows.

Do you need a separate business line for sales calls?

Yes, and in Rapidialer that line is a Twilio number. Rapidialer calls only from numbers bought in or ported into your Twilio account; it can’t use a Twilio Verified Caller ID such as your personal mobile. A local number costs $1.15 a month, and callbacks to it ring your browser or a forwarding mobile, so customers who call back reach you without seeing your personal number.

How many calls can one person make in an hour?

As many as your conversations leave room for. This auto dialer for small business teams is a power dialer, so it adds only a five-second countdown between calls and never rings a second number while you talk. On a list of past customers, more of the hour goes to conversations; on a cold list, more of it goes to unanswered calls and voicemail. Your own figure appears in analytics after the first week.

When should a small business add a second seat?

Add a seat when someone else needs to dial or take callbacks. Each member gets their own login, line and call history, and you keep the lists, scripts and recordings when people change roles. Once several reps dial every day, the SDR team setup adds call blocks and a leaderboard.

How do you connect Twilio to Rapidialer?

Paste your Twilio Account SID and Auth Token into Settings → Telephony and press Save & provision; it takes one screen. Do this as the owner or an admin. Rapidialer checks that the account has at least one phone number, then imports your numbers into the Phone numbers table. Choose Set default on the one you want to call from; Import from provider pulls in numbers you buy later.

Automatically record calls is on once Twilio is connected. Leave it on if you want to review your calls, or turn it off to save Twilio’s $0.0025 per recorded minute (Twilio US voice pricing); call recording explains the consent side. If you are new to Twilio, start with the guide to setting up Twilio for outbound calling.

Your first week with Rapidialer

A simple plan for an owner who calls their own customers and leads:

  • Day one: upgrade your Twilio account if it is still a trial, buy one local number, connect it to Rapidialer and make a test call to your own mobile.
  • Day two: export your customers or leads to CSV, import them as a list, and write a three-stage talk track: opener, reason for calling and next step.
  • Days three and four: dial in two short blocks a day with Power Dial on, and log an outcome for every call so callbacks come back on time.
  • Day five: look at analytics. Which list reached the most people, and what did they say? Adjust the script, then plan next week’s list.

What should you check if the first call fails?

Check Twilio first. If the Dialer shows “Twilio is not configured for this organization,” the Telephony page was never saved; owners and admins get an Open Telephony settings link right in the alert.

If calls connect only to your own mobile, the Twilio account is still a trial, which can call verified numbers only. And if dialing locks with “Your free trial has ended,” add a paid seat on the Billing page.

Small businesses: questions and answers

What is the best power dialer for a small business?

One that is cheap at one or two seats and has no seat minimum. Rapidialer is $5 per seat a month with no minimum, plus Twilio’s usage; PhoneBurner includes unlimited calling in a higher per-user price, and JustCall starts at two users. Each one’s published terms and sources appear in the comparison below.

Is there a free plan?

No. Rapidialer has no free plan. There is a 14-day free trial with one seat and no credit card, which is enough to connect Twilio, import a list and run real calls. After the trial, dialing locks until you pay for a seat at $5 per seat per month or $49 per seat per year.

Do I need a Twilio account?

Yes. Rapidialer calls through your own Twilio account, which you create at Twilio and pay for usage directly; Rapidialer never resells minutes. A trial Twilio account can only call verified numbers, so upgrade it before calling customers. Owning the account means your numbers, recordings and call records stay with your business if you ever leave Rapidialer.

Can I start alone and add people later?

Yes. A small business can start Rapidialer with one seat and add seats from the Billing page when it hires; seat changes are prorated for the rest of the billing period. Invite the new rep from Settings → Team as an agent, give them their own outbound line with Change outbound line, and share the lists and scripts you already built.

Can I keep my current business number?

Yes, if it moves into Twilio. Rapidialer calls from numbers in your Twilio account, so port your existing number to Twilio first, then press Import from provider on the Telephony page. Until the port completes, you can call from a new local Twilio number.

Can I use Rapidialer to call existing customers, not only new leads?

Yes. Rapidialer dials any list you import, so a small business can call past customers for renewals, reviews of an order or seasonal offers the same way it calls new leads. Export the customers to CSV, import them as their own list, and give every “call me next quarter” a dated follow-up. Sales calls to consumers still follow the calling-hours and do-not-call rules.
