Key takeaways
- PhoneBurner Standard is $140 per user a month on annual billing and $165 billed monthly, with unlimited calling included.
- Rapidialer is $5 per seat a month; Twilio bills a browser call to a US number at about 1.8 cents a minute on your own account.
- Three reps cost $420 a month on PhoneBurner Standard and about $80 on Rapidialer with 1,000 billed Twilio minutes each.
- The two cost the same per rep at roughly 6,500 billed minutes a month, a little over five hours of talk a day.
- Rapidialer has no voicemail drop and no native CRM other than HubSpot, but every seat includes two-way SMS and live listen, whisper and barge.
Why teams look for alternatives to PhoneBurner
- PhoneBurner’s seat price includes unlimited calling, which is good value for heavy callers but expensive for reps who talk a few hundred minutes a month.
- Teams that already have Twilio numbers end up paying for calling twice, once to Twilio and again inside the PhoneBurner seat.
- Small teams want a dialer they can expand one seat at a time without moving to a larger plan for a feature like SMS.
- Some teams want call recordings and numbers to stay in an account they control.

Which one fits your team
Choose Rapidialer if
- You already have Twilio numbers, or want calls, numbers and recordings in your own account.
- Your reps use fewer minutes than an unlimited plan assumes, so paying Twilio per minute costs less.
- You want single-line power dialing, talk tracks, outcomes and follow-ups without paying for a bundled CRM.
Stay with PhoneBurner if
- You need voicemail drop, or a native integration with a CRM other than HubSpot; Rapidialer has neither.
- You would rather have unlimited calling on one invoice than manage a Twilio account.
- Your reps talk more than about 6,500 billed minutes a month, where unlimited calling costs less.
Is Rapidialer cheaper than PhoneBurner for a five-rep team?
Yes, at typical talk time: about $133 a month for five Rapidialer reps with Twilio usage, against $700 for five PhoneBurner Standard users on annual billing. PhoneBurner’s seat includes calling; Rapidialer is $5 per seat, and Twilio bills each call at its published rates. The PhoneBurner pricing guide breaks down every plan and team size.
The gap narrows for reps who talk far more than 1,000 minutes a month. Extra local numbers for more area codes add $1.15 a month each, and Twilio may add a per-call surcharge in months when unanswered and very short calls reach 20% of your North America calls (Twilio terms), so run your own numbers through the Twilio call cost calculator and check your first Twilio bill. Who should stay with PhoneBurner?
Stay if your reps drop recorded voicemails, or if calls must land in a CRM other than HubSpot without any setup. PhoneBurner is a mature product with voicemail drop, SMS on its Premium plan, a list of native CRM integrations and local caller ID. Rapidialer leaves voicemail drop out on purpose and syncs natively with HubSpot only; Salesforce, Pipedrive and other CRMs connect through its signed webhooks (Zapier, Make or n8n), its REST API, or CSV. If your workflow depends on a native connector, the price difference may not matter.
Heavy callers are the other group: reps who talk more than about 6,500 billed minutes a month cross the point where unlimited calling beats paying Twilio by the minute. Live coaching and texting are no longer reasons to stay. Rapidialer managers can listen, whisper or barge from the Live calls page, and two-way SMS with templates and STOP/START opt-out comes with every seat rather than a higher plan.
Does PhoneBurner require a contract, and when should you switch?
It depends on how you pay. PhoneBurner’s help center describes two billing types: monthly service charged to your card, or a discounted price for signing a yearly contract (PhoneBurner support). On monthly billing you can plan the move for the end of any month; on the annual contract, time it to the renewal date and ask PhoneBurner in writing what leaving early costs.
The same article says that cancelling removes access to your account and to any numbers you bought, so export contacts, recordings and do-not-call numbers, and start any number port, while your seats are still active. Rapidialer itself is a power dialer with no contract: it bills per seat, monthly or yearly, and a cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you paid for.
What does a day of dialing look like after the switch?
A rep opens a list in the Dialer with Power dial checked, presses Start, and the first call goes out. After each call, the rep picks an outcome with a number key from 1 to 9, adds a note, and a 5-second countdown starts before the next contact; Cancel, Skip and Dial now sit beside it.
The list does the scheduling PhoneBurner reps often do by hand. With Retry unanswered contacts on, a No answer comes back after 4 hours and a Voicemail after 24 hours by default, up to 3 attempts unless you raise it (the limit is 20). With calling hours on, the default window is 09:00 to 20:00, Monday to Friday, in each contact’s local time, worked out from the number. Due callbacks are served first.
Twilio’s trial accounts only call verified numbers, so upgrade Twilio before the first real session.
Habits that change when you leave PhoneBurner
A few PhoneBurner routines have a different shape in Rapidialer:
- Voicemail drop becomes a live message or a retry. Log the Voicemail outcome and let the list’s retry rules bring the contact back later, instead of dropping a recording.
- Live call monitoring moves to the Live calls page. Managers listen, whisper to the rep or barge in, and afterwards play back dual-channel recordings in call history.
- Answering machines are detected for you. When answering-machine detection hears a machine, the rep leaves a live message or skips to the next contact.
- Dispositions become outcome buttons. Rebuild yours as custom outcome buttons, up to 20, each mapped to a standard outcome.
- Opt-outs move to your DNC list. Import your do-not-call export into Rapidialer’s organization Do Not Call list before anyone dials.

PhoneBurner alternative: questions and answers
Is Rapidialer cheaper than PhoneBurner?
For a team at around 1,000 billed minutes per rep, yes. Five Rapidialer seats with about 1,000 billed Twilio minutes per rep cost roughly $133 a month in total, while five PhoneBurner Standard seats are $700 a month on annual billing. Very heavy callers get more value from PhoneBurner’s unlimited calling.
Is Rapidialer a single-line dialer like PhoneBurner?
Yes. Both call one contact at a time for each rep. Rapidialer’s Power Dial dials the next contact after the rep wraps up, with a five-second countdown the rep can skip or cancel. Neither one rings several numbers at once, so a person who answers always reaches a rep. The difference is underneath: PhoneBurner carries the calls, while Rapidialer places them through your Twilio account.
Does Rapidialer have voicemail drop?
No. Twilio says ringless voicemail and voicemail drops do not align with its terms of service (Twilio Support), so Rapidialer does not offer them. Reps leave voicemails live, or log the Voicemail outcome and let the list’s retry rules bring the contact back the next day.
Does Rapidialer sync with a CRM or send texts?
Yes for HubSpot and texting. Rapidialer logs every call on the matching HubSpot contact and can import HubSpot contacts into calling lists. Other CRMs connect through signed outbound webhooks, for example with Zapier, Make or n8n, or through REST API keys. Two-way SMS, with templates, STOP and START opt-out handling and a Messages inbox, is part of every seat.
Does PhoneBurner work with my own Twilio account?
No. PhoneBurner bundles calling into its plans, so calls run on its own telephony rather than on a Twilio account you control (PhoneBurner pricing). Rapidialer is built the other way round: it connects your Twilio account, and Twilio bills your calls directly.
Can I keep my phone numbers?
Rapidialer uses numbers in your Twilio account. Numbers you already have in Twilio work right away: Import from provider on the Telephony page syncs up to 200 of them. For a number PhoneBurner provides, ask PhoneBurner whether it can be ported out; if it can, port it to Twilio, and until then buy a new local number at $1.15 a month. Verifying the PhoneBurner number as a Twilio caller ID does not help, because Rapidialer cannot use Twilio Verified Caller IDs.
Does Rapidialer include unlimited calling like PhoneBurner?
No. Rapidialer does not resell minutes: calls run on your own Twilio account, and Twilio bills each minute at its published rate, about 1.8 cents a minute from the browser to a US number. Unless a rep talks for several hours every day, that costs less than a bundled seat.
Is there a cheaper alternative to PhoneBurner for small teams?
For a small team that already pays Twilio, a seat-priced dialer usually costs less than PhoneBurner’s bundled plan. Rapidialer is $5 per seat a month with Twilio billing calls separately, so a two-rep team at about 1,000 billed minutes each pays roughly $53 a month in total. PhoneBurner Standard for the same two users is $280 a month on annual billing, with unlimited calling included.
Who should stay on PhoneBurner?
Teams that drop recorded voicemails every day, teams that need a native connector to a CRM other than HubSpot, and reps who talk more than about 6,500 billed minutes a month, the point where Twilio usage plus a seat costs as much as Standard. Teams that would rather not run a Twilio account are also better served by an all-in-one plan.
Can callers reach my reps when they call back?
Yes, on any Rapidialer page a rep has open while signed in. A call to a synced Twilio number rings the teammate whose line it is, then the rest of the team after about 15 seconds; a number with no assigned rep rings the whole team at once. See inbound calls for how numbers are assigned.
